New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS): Anshu Gupta, the winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2015, on Saturday urged the youth to do something for society.

Gupta's remark came during a felicitation ceremony at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication here.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association on Saturday felicitated its distinguished alumni and NGO Goonj founder Anshu Gupta for receiving the prestigious award.

It was Gupta's first media interaction after returning from the Philippines with the award.

He said that people receive subsidies for education and health.

"Hence when I wake up in the morning, I feel the need to repay and look for ways to do something in that direction," Gupta said.

He urged the youth to look for ways to do something for society.

Gupta also urged people to stand up for the right issues.

He said: "It's a really great feeling... to be honoured by the IIMC alumni association. I must say that I had my best days here and learnt many new lessons of life here."

IIMC director general Sunit Tandon said: "It's a great honour to have alumni like Anshu Gupta who have carved a new path of giving instead of just running after wealth."

He congratulated Gupta for the award and hoped that Goonj will be the frontrunner in its endeavour to make a positive difference to society.

IIMC president Sunila Dhar said: "People like Anshu don't belong to any particular institute, any country, they belong to mankind and we are honoured that they are part of this illustrious institute."
