Mangaluru, Sep 5: The premises of Shree Kadri Manjunatha Temple here brimmed with cute little Krishnas on Saturday September 5, as scores of children as young as seven months participated enthusiastically in Krishna fancy dress competition organized by Kalkura Prathishtana.
The competition, marking the birth of Lord Krishna or Krishna Janmashtami, was held in 15 categories at five venues simultaneously in the Temple premises.
The categories were 'Kanda Krishna' for infants aged less than one year, 'Muddu Krishna' for toddlers between one and two years, 'Tunta Krishna' for 2 to 3 year olds, 'Bala Krisha' for tiny tots in LKG and anganwady kids, 'Kishora Krishna' for UKG and first standard children and so on. There was also a 'Yaksha Krishna' category in which contestants had to perform different forms of Yakshagana. The 'Nanda Gokula' group category was open for all, while 'Radha Krishna' category was for girl-boy teams of seventh standard. Some of the other categoris were 'Devaki Krishna', 'Yashoda Krishna' and 'Vasudeva Krishna' where parents also participated with their kids.
Various other competitions relating to Sri Krishna were also held. All the competitions received huge response from parents and children.
The event was symbolically inaugurated in a unique manner by placing a 11-month-old baby in a cradle, after which the dignitaries on the dais lit the ceremonial lamp. Among the guests were Karnataka Bank MD Jayaram Bhat, Kadri Temple treasurer A J Shetty, M D Puranik, Vijayalakshmi Shetty, Aithappa Naik and others.
