Mangaluru, Sep 8: "BJP under the leadership of its state president Prahlad Joshi will organize 'Raita Chaitanya Yatre' on September 11 at Brahmashree Narayana Guru Mandir near BC Road at 3 pm, in order to wake up the sleeping state government and urge it to provide help and solution to the problems faced by the farmers in the state," said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Addressing a press meet at the district BJP office here on Tuesday September 8, Nalin Kateel said, "From the past few months the famers in the state, especially sugercane famers are committing suicide due to draught and heavy loans. The state government has been sleeping and not providing solution to the farmers.
"The BJP government under the former chief minister of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa had responded effectively to farmers' concerns during areca crop failure and had provided special packages and loans with zero interest. The centre has released funds of Rs 6,000 crore for sugarcane farmers as compensation, but the Karnataka government which was supposed to recieve Rs 1,600 crore, has not received any amount from the centre as it has failed to submit the detailed report on the condition of the farmer in the state," he added.
"The CM seems to think Bengaluru alone as the entire state and is totally focused on only one city. He has failed to hear the cries of farmers. Rainfall has certainly decreased in the state, even in DK district, we are facing many problems, but the government is indifferent to the situation.
"The state government has also not submitted the Kasturirangan report to the centre. The government has failed to heed to the problems of the common people and also in matters of saftey and security of people. Now we are facing power crisis also. This government has failed totally and as a responsible opposition, it our duty to wake up the government," he said.
Asked what his stand was on the controversial Yettinahole project, Nalin Kumar said, "I have written a letter to union minister of water resources Uma Bharti urging her to intervene and and drop the project. I agree that the project was planned by the BJP government, but it was not implemented during BJP regime. Many plans of the previous BJP government which were beneficial to the public were scraped by the CM as soon as he assumed power, but why was this project not scraped?"
BJP MLC Ganesh Karnik, BJP leader Monappa Bhandary, former MLA Krishna J Palemar and others were present.
