Hubballi, Sep 9 (DHNS): Accusing their college principal of having misbehaved with girl students during an industrial tour to Goa, a group of students assaulted him, ransacked his chamber and smashed his new car on Tuesday.
Students picketed a prominent private college in the city, thrashed its principal, Anand M Waddin, broke flower pots on the campus, ransacked his chamber, damaged windowpanes of the college building, smashed flower pots on his car and then overturned it. They didn’t even spare a CCTV camera installed on the campus. Tension prevailed for some time until the police arrived at the spot and detained the principal.
They raised slogans against him when he was being taken out of the college.
The students later converged outside the police station and dispersed only after Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane assured them that the suspect would be arrested and suitable action taken against him.
Students, including 13 girls, were taken to an industrial tour to Goa from September 4 to 6. The principal is alleged to have misbehaved with girls then and even forced them to consume alcohol.
Police produced Waddin, along with two lecturers Gopal Biradar and Sherli Benn, who had accompanied the students to Goa, before the second JMFC court, which remanded them in police custody till September 19.
The director of the educational institution met the students and their parents on the college premises. He said the principal had been suspended with immediate effect, and promised to dismiss him after an enquiry.
