Mangalore, Jul 2: A ‘Vovyo ani Vers’ (traditional Konkani wedding songs) workshop was held at Derebail church hall on Sunday July 1.

The workshop was organized under the joint auspices of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Social and Cultural Committee of Derebail church.

Derebail parish priest Fr Godfrey Saldanha inaugurated the workshop and released  ‘Bhailyan Ailo Vhor’, a collection of traditional Konkani wedding songs, compiled by Irene Rebello-D'Cunha Hosabettu.

Non-Konkani-speaking people can also study Konkani in the schools as foreign languages like French, German etc are studied, he opined.

Academy president Eric Ozario presided over the function. Registrar S H Shivarudrappa, Derebail social and cultural committee convener Gerald Concesso and parish council vice president Vincent Castelino were present on the dais.

Konkani stalwarts Hilda D’Souza, Irene Rebello and Ravi Stephen were the resource persons of the workshop. Academy executive member Vitori Karkal welcome and compered. Registrar Shivarudrappa proposed the vote of thanks.
