Mangaluru, Sep 12: Even as an attempt on the life of Lancy D'Souza, said to be in retaliation for the killing of Hind Jagran Vedike (HJV) activist, Yatish, at Thokkottu Chembugudde, failed in its purpose and he is recovering in a hospital at Deralakatte near here, there is a possibility that the killers may choose Uday Shetty, main accused in Yatish murder case, as their next target.

It may be recalled that Uday Shetty from Bagambila and some others had killed auto rickshaw driver, Yatish, resident of
Saraswat Colony in Someshwar, on August 15 last year in a bar at Thokkottu for frivolous reasons. It was said that the gang was instigated to commit this murder by Lancy D'Souza.
HJV activists close to Yatish, it is suspected, had planned to take revenge on Lancy and Uday Shetty for their role in Yatish's murder. It is said that a gang which is raring for the scalp of Uday Shetty, is waiting for his release from the jail. Lancy had been released on bail from jail three months back. Lancy, who was moving about freely, did not anticipate any attack on him, it is said. It is believed that the gang had planned to eliminate Lancy on August 15, the date on which their friend, Yatish, had been killed last year, but could not execute the plan as Lancy did not come out that day. On Thursday, they waited and attacked Lancy, but Lancy narrowly survived the attack.
It is said that the gang fled, sensing that the car in which they had arrived was stuck between vehicles and they might not get an opportunity to flee. They therefore, abandoned their plans, and rushed through another road, and escaped in a vehicle.
In the meantime, it is believed that Uday Shetty has been refusing to come out on bail, as he is aware that his life would be in danger if he does so. In the meantime, the policemen, who believe that Choni alias Keshav from Someshwar, Rakshit from Kapikad, Prashant alias Pachchu, and Sujan were among the six involved with the above murder attempt, have been making efforts to take them into custody.
