Bantwal, Sep 13: “No project which affects the environment should be taken up at all. It is also illegal to start the work without acquiring the land from common people as per the land acquisition act.” said Justice Santosh N Hegde, the former Lokayuktha of Karnataka.
Justice Hegde was speaking during the lecture held at Sri Satya Sai education trust on account of JCI week 2015 in Vittal near here.
“I do not have fact and figures in hand to talk about Yettinahole project. But I am sure that projects which are against the nature do not work. River Netravathi diversion is a vote bank gimmick. And unfortunately it is being done in illegal ways.” Justice Santosh Hegde added.
Coming down heavily on corruption, Justice Hegde said "Corruption has affected every institution including the Lokayuktha. It seems that there is no place without corruption. The youth of the nation should start boycotting the corrupt persons from the society. This is the country of highest corruption. Commonwealth, 2 G and coal gate scams have affected the nation a lot. Even water is not spared in corruption. Government does not even have the proper accounts of Rs 51,000 crore released for drinking water purpose. Judiciary should help in speeding up the process of justice. Presently some cases take twenty years to see judgement which is wrong. People should join the government service without selfishness."
