Mangaluru, Sep 14: Thousands of people from the city and far off places undertook journey to Lord Somanatha Temple at Someshwara, Ullal here, on the holy occasion of Shravana Amavasya on Sunday September 13.

The people get a sense of having purged of their past sins, by taking bath in the sea and prostrating before Lord Somanatha here on Shravana Amavasya. It is customary for them to buy betel leaves and areca nut, which are offered to the sea after circling them around their heads. The visitors take bath at the spot where waves from the sea splash the 'Rudrapade' rock.

A team of lifeguards was on duty at the beach since early morning to avoid any unfortunate incidents from occurring.
