Mangaluru: NITTE University holds blood donation camp

Mangaluru, Sep 14: "Blood donation is one of the noble causes as it saves human life. Our life will be fruitful not by accumulating wealth, but by saving human life. There is lot of demand for various groups of blood across the country today. But availability of blood is only to the extent of 50% of the requirement. Hence individuals and organizations should involve themselves in social activities such as donation of blood in a big way," said Dr M Shantharam Shetty pro-chancellor of NITTE University and chief of Tejasvini Hospital, Mangaluru.













He spoke after inaugurating the blood donation camp sponsored by 'Canpal' a wing of Canara Bank Officer’s Association Mangaluru region in association with NITTE University NSS unit and Tejasvini Hospital Blood Bank at Canara Bank circle office Mangaluru.

He said "There is an urgent need to set up blood banks at various centres so that patients will get blood in time of need without difficulty. He appreciated the efforts of Canara Bank Officer’s Association in sponsoring social activity of this kind along with their routine professional career.
Dr Muralee Mohan Choontharu co-ordinator of NSS unit of NITTE University and commandant of Home guards DK district spoke on the occasion and appreciated the initiative taken by Canara Bank Officer’s Association members under the banner of 'Canpal' by utilizing their first second Saturday holiday for the cause of humanity. He assured full co-operation from NITTE University in all the social activities of this kind in future as well.

G V Prabhu DGM of Mangaluru circle presided over the function and appreciated the efforts of 'Canpal' members. Megha Shetty CC member of CBOA welcomed the gathering and Suparna Attavar co-ordinator of Canpal Kudla unit proposed the vote of thanks and Swathi co-ordinated the programme.

Officers of the bank, customers, students of SDM Law College and SDM Business Management College, Besant Women’s College participated in the camp and about 81 people donated their blood.
