Mangaluru, Sep 15: A two-wheeler rider, who has been accused of stabbing and injuring an auto rickshaw driver, Gopalkrishna Shetty (48) near Roopavani Theatre at Market Road here, has been nabbed.
Shetty, who hails from Panjimogaru here, had objected to Puneet Salian (24) from Devantagudde in Kavoor Marakada, the accused, for entering one-way street in his motor bike.
The arrest was made by Bunder police station here. The accused was produced in the court on Monday September 14 and remanded in judicial custody.
At around 2.30 pm on Sunday, Puneet had driven his motor bike through no-entry street, and after he was confronted by Shetty, he had fled after stabbing and injuring Shetty. When running away, Puneet had left behind his two-wheeler, on the basis of which the police could find out his whereabouts. The police had formed two teams to find out the culprit in this case, led by inspector, Shantaram.
Puneet is a carpenter by profession. It is said that after verbal altercation between him and Shetty, Puneet went away, but returned after ten minutes, to resume the quarrel with the auto rickshaw driver. He had then fled after stabbing Shetty with a small knife accompanying his key bunch, injuring the auto driver in the abdomen region.
Puneet told the police during questioning that he chose to stab the auto driver, as he had turned angry at having been publicly derided and insulted. In the meanwhile, Gopalkrishna Shetty is recovering in a private hospital here.
