Bengaluru, Sep 17 (DHNS): The Lokayukta police on Wednesday registered an FIR against senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan and his wife Dr Richa Saxena in the disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The State government had on Monday ordered a Lokayukta police probe into the seizure of cash, jewellery and property documents from a posh apartment in Yeshwanthpur, belonging to a registered company in the name of Kapil Mohan’s father Naresh Mohan.
The FIR has been registered under sections 13 (1) (e) and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act. A Lokayukta police team headed by SP (Bengaluru Rural) Abdul Ahad searched five premises belonging to Kapil Mohan in the City.
The police teams raided Kapil Mohan’s house at HSR Layout, his office at Youth Empowerment and Sports Department on Nrupatunga Road and three other apartments. A senior police official said that the other three premises were occupied by tenants.
Based on a tip-off by the Income Tax Department, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which was probing the cricket betting case, had searched the 6th floor flat of Maple Block at Golden Grand properties in Yeshwanthpur on August 5.
The CID had seized Rs 4.37 crore, gold and diamonds worth crores of rupees and property documents. The CID had submitted a report to the government and the chief minister ordered a Lokayukta police probe.
“There are several vouchers and bills for the purchases of gold jewellery. These bills and vouchers are in the name of Kapil Mohan's wife. The papers seized by the CID at the apartment include five property documents in the name of Dr Richa.These properties are in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The bills seized from the apartment in Yeshwanthpur suggest that the jewellery items were bought in the last one year. The bills for the jewellery are worth around Rs 50 lakh,” an official said.
Sources also said that the diamonds found at the house have not been estimated yet and there were no bills for the same.
The documents seized from the apartment had names of Kapil Mohan’s father Naresh Mohan, his son Ahaan Mohan and another relative Mithlesh Saxena. The police found that the flat was purchased under the name of the firm, PSK Finance Solutions Pvt Limited, in which Naresh, Ahaan and Mithlesh are the directors.
A 1990-batch IAS officer, Kapil Mohan has only declared a house at HSR Layout, site for which was allotted by the Metropolitan Housing Co-Operative Society, and two other properties.
The HSR Layout site was purchased in 1996 and a house was constructed in 2004. Kapil Mohan has declared another site which was allotted to him as the member of Greenwoods Government Officers’ Welfare Society at Greater Noida.
