Mangaluru, Sep 17: In yet another exemplary gesture of humanity, health minister U T Khader on Thursday September 17 admitted to hospital two accident victims who were seriously hurt and lying on the road. He also paid their hospital expenses.
James (50) and his wife Suzanne (48), residents of Asaigoli were riding home in their scooter from Thokkottu when James lost balance and both fell on the road and sustained serious leg and head injuries.
However, though they were lying helplessly on the road, none of the passersby or locals made any effort to take them to hospital, it is said.
Meanwhile, minister U T Khader who was returning to Mangaluru after participating in a Ganeshotsava event at Naringana saw the couple lying on the road and stopped his vehicle. Without wasting any time, he shifted the couple into his vehicle with the help of some party workers who were accompanying him, and took them to KS Hegde Hospital in Deralakatte.
Khader also paid their hospital expenses in advance from his own pocket.
It is learnt that James felt faint due to the intense heat while riding and fell off the scooter, and blacked out. When he came to his senses, he found himself on the hospital bed, and later learnt that the minister had admitted him and his wife to hospital. The couple expressed gratitude to U T Khader for helping them.
