Sullia: Young man falls to death at Kalyala waterfall

Sullia, Sep 18: A youngster, who had come to view the Kalyala waterfall at the taluk border, died after slipping and falling into the precipice of the waterfall on Wednesday September 16.

Harshit Naik (21) from Eshwaramangala in the taluk was the unfortunate victim of this incident. Harshit was accompanied by a group of friends during this visit. He was taking a selfie with the waterfall in the background, when he slipped and fell down from atop the hillock. He had suffered serious injuries. He was provided preliminary treatment in the town before referring to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced care.

Harshit however, died when being taken to Mangaluru.

In the recent past, a jeep driver from Aranthodu had slipped and fallen to his doom at this waterfall. In view of recurrence of such incidents, Sampaje gram panchayat in Kodagu district, under the jurisdiction of which this waterfall is located, has banned visits to this waterfall.
