Mangalore, Jul 9: The inaugural function of Rashtriya Thenkana Yakshotsava (RTY) was organized by yaksha manjusha. This function of Yaksha kalanidhi award -2007 was constituted by Academy of Thenku Thittu Yakshagana (ATTY). This award was conferred on the artiste Peruvodi Narayan Bhat at Town Hall here, on Sunday July 8.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Puroshotham Bilimale director of American institute of Indian studies and president of Delhi karnataka sangha said that if an art form has to survice then it must overcome the constraints of language and space.
He informed further that ATTY is popularizing Yakshagana at the national level.
M V Rajashekharam Union minister for planning stated that it is due to folk arts, the culture and tradition of India is still alive. And therefore efforts must be made to preserve the art forms that have been preserved by the artistes.
S K Bhat of Yaksha Manjusha said ATTY based in Delhi was set-up to reinforce Yakshagana, as well as propogate this art form among foreigners and inspire them to have a look at this ancient art form.
During the Yakshotsav, yakshagana performances will be conducted in both in kannada as well as hindi languages, he informed.
A website was also inaugurated on the occasion. The website will provide information on Yaksha Manjusha and Thenku Thittu Yakshagana. Apart from the website CDs on Yakshagana episodes was also released.
Artiste Peruvodi Narayan Bhat was feted with the Yaksha Kalanidhi Award – 2007.
Artiste Kumble Sundar Rao, Abhaychandra Jain MLA, Vinay Kumar Sorake former minister and artiste Vidya Kolyur were also present on the occasion.
