B’luru: Dr NSAM FGC hosts Kannada conference Sampige 2015

Bengaluru, Sep 18: Dr NSAM First Grade College hosted an international conference in Kannada titled ‘SAMPIGE 2015’ on Tuesday, September 15.

The theme of the conference was ‘Challenges faced by Kannada Language in the Current Educational Scenario’.

Dr HC Boralingaiah, former vice chancellor of Hampi Kannada University was the chief guest for the conference. Dr Hema Chandra an Educational Consultant and Professor from Canada and Dr Banjagere Jayaprakash the director of Kannada Text Book Publication were the guests of honour. Rohit Punja, the administrator of the Nitte Education Trust presided over the function.

The guests were all welcomed with the traditional Dollu Kunitha. The inaugural function was held in the seminar hall of the PGDM Block of NMIT.

Principal Dr Meera Krishnappa welcomed the gathering after the invocation and the traditional lighting of the lamp. Appu Jadhav, convener of the programme gave the keynote address. All of the guests shared their views on the importance of Kannada and how one should propagate its usage. The inaugural function ended with the vote of thanks by Bhavya.

The programme was ably compered by Dr Hemavathi. All the guests were honoured with garlands, mementoes, shawls and fruit baskets. This was followed by the technical sessions in three different seminar halls of the degree college.

A total of 56 delegates presented papers on the sub themes of the conference. The three moderators for the presentations were Prof Jayaram Shetty of NSOM, Prof Venkatesh Murthy HOD of BES College and Dr Chandrashelar Nangali, Principal of Govt College, Malur.

A delicious vegetarian lunch was served to everyone after one hour of technical sessions.

The sessions continued post lunch. The quality of the papers was appreciated by all the moderators.

The valedictory programme was held after all the paper presentations at 4.30 p.m. in the AV room in the Dr NSAM PU Block. Chief guest for the valedictory function was Dr L N Mukundraju, Director, Kavya Mandala, Karnataka. It commenced with the welcome by the Principal Dr Meera Krishnappa followed by the opening remarks by the convener Appu Jadhav. The chief guest spoke about the development of Kannada and how it should be the personal mission and interest of every Kannadiga to promote the language.

Prof Jayaram Shetty shared his views of the conference and stated that every institution should take the initiative to organize such conferences.

The vote of thanks was rendered by Sowjanya and all the guests were honoured with shawls, mementoes and fruit baskets. The programme was ably compered by Bhavya.

The efforts for the organization of the conference had commenced almost a month ahead with preparing the brochure, emailing it to the various colleges, deciding on the guests, preparing the invitations, the programme details and short listing the papers.

The work was challenging but with the untiring efforts of convener Appu Jadhav and all the teaching and non teaching staff of the college, the conference was made an extremely successful one.
