Raichur, Sep 19: The chief district and sessions court here, through a judgment, has ordered an insurance company to disburse compensation of one crore rupees to the family of an assistant professor of Agricultural University, who died in a road accident sometime back. This is said to be a record, considering the quantum of compensation ordered to be paid.

Rajeshwari Karadi (36), assistant professor with Raichur Agricultural University, died on October 14, 2014 in an accident. She was crossing the road near Aland Circle after work that day, when a truck bearing Maharashtra registration number knocked her down to death.

Not satisfied by the compensation offered by United Insurance Company Ltd, which had insured the truck, Rajeshwari's husband, Girish Danappagoudar and his children approached the district court, seeking to revise the compensation amount decided by the company.

Judge of the court, P G M Patil, who took into account witnesses, proof, and salary last drawn by Rajeshwari before her death and other things, decided upon payment of compensation amounting to Rs 94.73 lac along with interest at the rate of six per cent per annum. The total amount so calculated works out to about a crore of rupees.

Advocate, Vatagal Basavaraj Patil, had argued in favour of increasing the compensation amount, on behalf of the petitioners.
