Bengaluru, Sep 19: A special session of Karnataka Legislature will be held in the first week of October to adopt an amendment to the Karnataka Lokayukta Act seeking removal of Karnataka’s Lokayutka Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, who is facing charges of allowing an extortion racket from his office as well as his official residence.

''The special session will be tentatively held for a week in the first week of October,’’ Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said, adding: ``A final decision in this regard will be taken at the cabinet meeting to be held on Monday and the Speaker will announce the date.’’

Another Bill that seeks to bring reforms in the administration of panchayat bodies in the state would also be introduced in the session,’’ the minister said speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturdauy.

The committee headed by senior Congress MLA K R Ramesh Kumar has given a report recommending several land mark changes in the functioning of the panchayat institutions.

The State Government wants to adopt those recommendations before the zilla and taluk panchayat elections to be held by year end,'' the minister added.

Besides, the special session will discuss drought situation in the state, Jayachandra said.

Land acquisition:

The property owners who will lose their properties for infrastructure projects are set to get higher compensation soon as the state government has decided to adopt the Land Acquisition Act enacted by the UPA government in 2014, the minister said.

The State Revenue Department had already framed the rules for implementation of the Act which would be placed before the cabinet to be held on Monday for approval,'' Jayachandra said.

He said the government was about to adopt the Act in 2014 itself, but it could not as the Narendra Modi government brought an Ordinance making some amendments. Because of which, several infrastructure projects particularly irrigation projects were held up due to the want of lands, he said.
