Bengaluru, Sep 20: A man has been arrested by Banashankari police in Bengaluru for allegedly cheating 12 women. The twelfth woman was the one who complained to the police about the cheating and theft which led to the arrest.
D M Ramakrishna alias Anil Prasad (46) from T Narasipura in Mysuru is the person arrested. He allegedly stole the gold jewellery from the complainant on the pretext of introducing her to his parents.
Ramakrishna advertised in newspapers that he was a widower and was looking to remarry. The woman in her complaint said that she contacted Ramakrishna by telephone upon seeing a matrimonial advertisement in a Kannada daily. Ramakrishna in the advertisement mentioned that he was looking for a bride as his wife had 'died' in an accident.
Ramakrishna and the woman met twice at the BDA complex in Banashankari. He told her that though he liked her, he also wanted the approval from his parents for the marriage. Ramakrishna asked her to make herself presentable by wearing a lot of gold jewelry when meeting his parents.
They met at the BDA complex in Banashankari, from where he took her to Hotel Maurya at Majestic where they had breakfast. Then they went to a cafe at Mantri Square mall in Malleswaram where he ordered a soft drink for her. As soon as she had the drink, she fell unconscious.
The woman mentioned in her complaint that when she regained consciousness, she was not at Mantri mall where she had fainted but at the BDA complex they had met earlier. Her ornaments were missing, she said.
She then tried calling Ramakrishna but his mobile phone was not reachable. After she was convinced that Ramakrishna had cheated her, she complained to the police. The police tracked Ramakrishna’s mobile phone and arrested him.
During the interrogation, it was found that he had committed 12 similar offences across the state.
Police were surprised to learn how Ramakrishna took the unconscious woman from Mantri mall in Malleswaram to the BDA complex in Banashankari which are 10 kilometers apart. Ramakrishna revealed that when the people at the Mantri mall asked him about the unconscious woman, he told them that she was his wife and she had fainted because of viral fever. From there he hired an auto-rickshaw and dropped her at the BDA complex even while she was still unconscious. On the way he took out all her gold jewelry. Around 150 grams of gold valuables have been recovered from Ramakrishna.
