Two Indians arrested for fraud in US

Washington, Sep 20 (IANS): Two Indians have been arrested in the US on charges of defrauding at least 70 people in 32 states of more than $150,000, a media report said.

Nikita Natvarlal Patel, 25, and Akash Satish Patel, 32, residents of New Jersey's Leonia city, would persuade their victims to pay up instantly in order to avoid being arrested for owing money to tax authorities, Jackson Observer reported on Saturday.

They were arrested on September 4 after police launched an investigation into a victim's complaint.

Leonia Police chief Thomas P. Rowe said the alleged fraudsters were residents of India and that Nikita's visa had expired.

Following their arrest, police have seized around $150,000 from their bank accounts.

The Patels are being held on $150,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail and charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception.

This was in the ABC news, how they called unsuspecting and elderly people and demanded the IRS dues without even having any tax to pay thus collected money through intimidation forcefully getting their social security number, credit card number and bank account number.

Most of the Indian community are well respected in the U.S. due to their academic and economic status but such rare news will put a dark cloud upon us all. This kind of activities were undertaken from Nigeria in the early days, but now other greedy people are adopting that, which is very sad.

My wife took a call from a person of Indian origin, and misled her offering internet service and some other big deals representing as if from Microsoft, lost $ 300.00.
Many con-artists of Indian origin are working now in the U.S. in different fields which is very pathetic.
