Manipal, Sep 21: Dr Narayana Sabhahit, professor department of Civil Engineering Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), hitherto director admissions, will be the new registrar of Manipal University from September 23.
He takes charge from Dr GK Prabhu, professor Biomedical Engineering, who will be the next Director of MIT.
Dr Sabhahit, who has a doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has 27 years of experience in teaching, research, consultancy and administration. He joined Manipal Institute to Technology in 1988 as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering after completion of M Tech.
During his tenure as director admissions, he has immensely contributed in strengthening the admission process. He has also coordinated B Tech online common counseling for Manipal Group of Institutions. Dr Sabhahit was the joint director of MIT, Manipal for a period of one year from May 2008 to May 2009. Prior to that, he was the head of the department of Civil Engineering, MIT Manipal for a period of four years from April 2004 to April 2008.
Dr GK Prabhu, with a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, joined Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal as lecturer in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1989 and has served the institute in various capacities. Dr Prabhu did his M Tech degree in Biomedical Engineering MIT, Manipal with first rank from Mangalore University (1994).
He served as the head of the department of Biomedical Engineering, MIT, Manipal during 2002 – 2006. And was appointed associate director (Research & Development), MIT in 2005 and continued in the post till his appointment as deputy registrar – technical, Manipal University in 2007. He was elevated to the position of the registrar of Manipal University, Manipal on March 01, 2008.
Dr Prabhu takes charge as Director MIT from Dr Vinod V Thomas, professor department of Electricals and Electronics Engineering. Dr Thomas moves to the position of additional registrar evaluation till he takes over as registrar evaluation from Dr P Laxminarayana Rao on May 1, 2016.
Joint director Manipal Institute of technology, Dr Srikanth Rao D, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, will be the new director admissions.
