Kasargod, Sep 21: In a daylight robbery, four persons waylaid a bike rider and snatched away Rs 6 lac from him. The incident occured at Edaneeru under Vidyanagar police station limits here on Monday September 21.
Four were taken into custody after they were caught by alert locals. The police have also seized two cars.
At around 2.30 pm on Monday, a young man with Rs 6 lac in his possession, meant for his sister's wedding preparations, was riding when a four persons came in a Swift car, stopped his bike and robbing him of his money, sped away in the car.
However, to the robbers' bad luck, when their car reached Karimbala near Badiadka, one of its tyres burst and they met with an accident near a bridge. Soon after, two other persons came to the spot in another car to repair the Swift.
The locals who grew suspicious of the body language of the six persons, approached and started questioning them. Two of the six persons took to their heels, but the locals managed to catch hold of the other four and handed them over to the police.
Among the four who are in custody, two were the accomplices who came to the robbers' help at the accident spot. The two who managed to escape with the loot were directly involved in the crime, police said.
Vidyanagar police are investigating further.
