Kasargod, Sep 12: A day after a bike rider was waylaid and robbed of lacs of rupees by a groupd of men who came in a Swift car, the Vidyanagar police on Tuesday September 22 arrested three persons in connection to the crime. Two others are absconding.
Hamza (26) and Arif (21) from Shuntikoppa and Zainuddin (25) from Kolageri, Madikeri are the persons arrested. Another person, whose identity has not been revealed, is said to be in custody.
On Monday September 21, When Mukhtar (30), from Melparamba Kiyur was riding a bike at Edaneeru on Badiadka road, the gang of four whom came in a Swift stopped him and snatched Rs 6 lac and fled in a car. The car had a puncture and hit a bridge due to which it could not move further. Soon after, two other persons came to the spot in an Alto to help the stranded robbers. The locals who grew suspicious questioned them, following which, two persons escaped with most of the loot and four were caught and handed over to the police.
However, though it was previously said that the men robbed Rs 6 lac from Mukhtar, the police have now put the amount at Rs 10 lac.
Out of Rs 10 lac, the police have recovered Rs 89,000 from the arrested persons, and also seized the two cars.
Sadiq from Madikeri, who lived in Cherkala from sometime, is the mastermind behind the robbery, police said. He along with another accused identified as Vinu are believed to have escaped with the remaining loot. The police are on a lookout for them.
The arrested persons revealed that Sadiq and Vinu got into a bus which was passing by the spot where the car accident had taken place. Police are investigating further.
