Udupi, Sep 22: A man has been accused of molesting a woman hailing from Punjab and currently staying in Mallar, Kaup here.
Salim (32), allegedly molested the woman on the evening of Monday September 21 when she was alone at home. She later got admitted to the government hospital.
The woman and her husband, both from Punjab, having been living in Mallar since 2006. The husband is working as a driver at Malpe.
The couple alleged that the police delayed in filing the complaint and came to the hospital to take the woman's statement only on Tuesday September 22 late afternoon.
SP Annamalai also met the couple at the hospital.
Salim, the accused, is a neighbour of the Punjabi couple, and has wife and a child. He was working in a foreign country earlier, sources said.
The woman's husband said that she had often complained to him about Salim staring at her or gesturing. He used to ignore her claims, he said, as he no reason to suspect Salim and did not want any trouble being an outsider. At around 7 pm on Monday, Salim allegedly entered the couple's house when the woman was alone and molested her.
Salim is yet to be arrested.
Meanwhile, Salim's wife filed a complaint against the Punjab man reportedly alleging harassment.
Kaup police are investigating.
