Mangaluru, Sep 23: A person, who murdered the woman who gave birth to him, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Dombayya Poojary (53) from Vittal is the person convicted and sentenced for killing his mother Sankamma two years back when she was 76.
As per details of the case, Dombayya was an alcoholic. He was telling his old aged mother to go and work so that he could get some money. He used to quarrel with her every day. On the night of February 19 in 2013, he had a quarrel again with his mother and he hit her with a palm plank repeatedly with anger. Sankamma who was hit on her neck, head, shoulders and legs was seriously injured to survive, and died on the spot.
A case was registered by the then circle inspector of Bantwal police station Anil S Kulkarni based on the complaint filed by Dombayya’s wife. Principal district and sessions judge Uma M J conducted the trail with examining 12 witnesses including the son and wife of Dombayya. It is said that both of them turned hostile once.
The court came to the verdict that Dombayya had killed his mother and convicted him as per section 302 of IPC on September 19. The judge pronounced the quantum of punishment on Tuesday September 22 with fixing the life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 5,000. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will get 6 months simple imprisonment.
