Mangalore, Jul 13: “Indian agriculture needs new investments as it has to respond to the needs of the farmers. So it has to be considered as venture rather than a tradition or family occupation,” said CMD of Corporation Bank B Sambhamurthy.
He was delivering the key-note address at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Nabard Bank here on Thursday July 12.
He further said that unless we mitigate the problems faced by farmers, the Indian agriculture can not develop.
The decline in the growth in agriculture sector is a serious issue, he added and said that no more it is right to neglect agriculture sector. “It is high time that we take agriculture sector rather seriously and promote it at the highest level,” he opined.
He further said that the rural people will get relief only when they get financial assistance.
Speaking on the occasion Dr N K Thingalaya, Syndicate Bank former CMD said that in future, Nabard should act as a regulator of small-scale finance institutions. He further said that Nabard has done a good job in its past by providing good services to the rural people.
He further called on Nabard bank to promote Rural banking since it is the right agency for micro-finance.
