M'luru: Raitha Sangha to hold national highway bandh on Sep 30

Mangaluru, Sep 24: Ravikiran Punacha district president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene addressing a press meet on Thursday September 24 said, "Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene will be holding a national highway bandh on Wednessday September 30. The bandh will be held for four hours in B C Road at 11.00 am. This is a protest against the state and union governments demanding the various demands of the farmers to be materialized."



On the various demands to be addressed at the protest Punacha said,"The demands to be raised will be, to implement proper measures to prevent suicide of farmers. Government should completely waive off the loan to farmers and a new policy for repayment of agriculture loan must be introduced. The government should form a commission to provide monthly income of Rs 15,000 to farmers. The Government must fix scientific rates for agricultural products. Government should think about permanent solution for drinking water for the district of Dakshina Kannada and should later think about the Yethinahole project. Proper measures should be taken to protect crops from wild animals. The Government should stop rubber export. The Nidoddi power project should be dropped, In addition to these demands some other demands will also be taken up,"

He also said that 4 farmers have committed suicide in the district, hence both the state and the union government must take proper measures to protect the interest of the farmers.

Suresh Bhat Kojambe, Manjunath Rai Parari, Gayathri Balthila, and Roopesh Rai were present at the meet.
