Dubai, Sep 27: Emirates Pangalites, UAE celebrated Monthi Feast on Friday, September 18 at Bangalore Empire Restaurant, Karama, Dubai. The traditional celebration commenced with prayer and gospel reading conducted by Joel Quodras and the committee members followed by a procession by children, youngsters and elders while singing the hymn, ‘Sakkad Sangatha Mellyam Moryek Hogolsiam'.
The newly married couple of Pangla, Dilip and Joslita Mendonca brought the new grain (Konsi) which was received by and Francis and Emilda D’Souzsa as elders, as per the tradition. Novem mixed with milkand sweets were distributed to the gathering.
Emirates Pangalites President, Noel D’Souza gave a warm welcome all the guests, Joseph Mathias, MD, Merit Freight Systems, Fr Robert Lasrado, spiritual director, Konkan community in Dubai, Walter Nandalike, Founder, Daijiworld Group and Dayan D’Souza, Founder, Daiji Dubai and all the attendees.
Joseph Mathias explained the significance of Monthi feast and asked the gathering to teach Konkani our mother tongue to the children and preserve our age old traditions to be followed by our future generations.
Fr Robert emphasized the significance of family feast and briefed about his stay in Dubai and his eagerness to having close connection with all the Konkani associations in Dubai.
Past President, Joel Quadras briefed about the EP’s upcoming events such as3rdBlood Donation camp in November 2015, 4th Domestic workers day out in November 2015 and Picnic for Pangalites in December and requested whole hearted support from all.
Speaking on the occasion Dayan D’souza stressed EP to continue doing the good work they are been doing as only few associations in Dubai are active now and wished EP all the very best in their future programmes.
A lovely entertainment programme consist of an energetic tulu yakka –Saka number from Anica and a bolloywood number by Anica, Sean and Ethen and comedy skits by Clevin,Sohan, Ashwin, Joel, Sunil and Andrea followed by some good Konkani numbers by Francis and Loreen. Various spot games were conducted by Joel/Sohan. A traditional vegetarian meal was served to all on banana leaves by Bangalore Empire Restaurant. The programme concluded with a game of housie-housie’ and distribution of prizes to the winners by the chief guests and the President.
Around 125 Pangalites with their relatives and friends gathered to celebrate the Monthi feast. Emirates Pangalites Secretary Andrea Cuthino proposed the vote of thanks. Sohan Castelino compered the whole programme.
