MRPL School for IIT coaching: The school will start a special 2 year coaching course to crack IIT Joint Entrance Exam, CET, AIEEE and other competitive exams. This class will begin by the first week of August and the admissions will be open till July 27. The class will be conducted at MRPL School in association with BASE, Bangalore based IIT JEE coaching institute. This course will provide 370 intensive inputs over weekends and summer holidays over 2 years. Eligibility criterion is that it is open for 9th standard students only. They are also planning to follow-up this course with an IIT achievers course for the same students when they reach class 11 and 12.
Applications solicited: Applications are invited from employed women for admission to the working women’s hostel in Manglagangothri for the year 2007-08. The hostel is situated in the Mangalore University campus.

Rakshana Vedike in Mangalore: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike was inaugurated by Laser Soft Info Systems VP K Ashok Bhat. Speaking on the occasion he exhorted citizens of the state to safeguard the kannada language and asked them to create a congenial atmosphere in their hearts and homes. He also wanted Kannada language to be rejuvenated on the lines of English medium schools to preserve it for future generations. He requested the Education dept. to look into the issue.
Fisheries Scientist for FAO: National professor and former director of research and Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) Iddya Karunasagar has joined the Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations as a senior Fishery Industry Officer (quality assurance). This is a senior diplomatic posting. He will be stationed at Rome, Italy and will be looking into issues of fish quality and safety in fish production and trade and will also provide technical assistance to FAO member countries in this field. Also as per the KVAFSU release, he has the added responsibility of providing scientific advise to Codex Alimentarius Commission.
