Mangalore, Jul 17: Judicial officers of Dakshina Kannada district took an important step forward to become a part of the ambitious National e-courts project, which was taken up by the Supreme Court (SC), when principal district and session court judge H M Bharathesh, handed over laptops to 15 officers here at the sacred grounds of the court, on Monday July 16.

The computerization of court’s records had been planned following a report submitted by e-committee on national policy and technology in Indian Judiciary. Accordingly nearly 15,000 judicial officers would be provided with laptops around the country. 

The said project aims at creating e-filing system in SC and High courts. A complete, incorporated and customised software application will be developed with the support of regional language for the entire judicial system. The ministry of law and justice had released Rs 187.05 crore to NIC till March 31, 2007.

Bharatesh handed over the first laptop to KB Changappa the first additional district and session judge. He urged the officers to work towards dispensing quick justice. 

The technology usage would go a long way in solving the accumulation of cases in various courts; he pointed out and advised the officers to use the laptops discreetly and handle it carefully too.
