Mangaluru, Oct 7: Poet and author Andrew L D'Cunha has been chosen for this year's Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Poetry Award for his anthology 'Anjurachem Paan'.
The Vimala V Pai annual awards, instituted by T V Mohandas Pai, are presented by World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru.
'Vastu', a novel written by popular Goan writer Meena S Kakodkar has been selected for Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Best Book Award. Similarly, senior Konkani researcher, author, translator and intellectual Suresh G Ammonkar has been selected for 'Vishwa Konkani Jeevana Siddi' Award (Lifetime Achievement Award).
'Anjurachem Paan' was published by Kavita Trust, Mangaluru in January 2014 and the foreword for the book was written by Central Sahitya Akademi Award recipient Melvyn Rodrigues. The book has also won Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Best Poetry Book Award as well as AIKWO (All India Konkani Writers’ Organization) Award. The book with 184 pages has 43 poems and 19 short poems.
Each award carries Rs 1 lac in cash, certificate, memento and shawl.
All the three awards will be presented in Mangaluru on November 6. Sponsor of the awards T V Mohandas Pai will be present in the programme, states a media release by Vishwa Konkani Kendra.
