Mangaluru, Oct 8: AJ Hospital and Research Centre on Wednesday October 8 organized a walkathon as part of its 20-day 'Jeevanvileena' awareness campaign on organ donation.
Zilla panchayat CEO Srividya flagged off the walkathon at Mangaluru City Corporation.
Students of Government College took part in the rally which culminated at AJ Hospital. However, the rally was marred by heavy rain.
Addressing the gathering Srividya said, "Organ donation is not very common in this region but with awareness programmes like rallies, the word would spread among people. AJ Hospital is doing a great job in spreading awareness. If you donate your organs, another person will benefit from your act. It is like giving life to another person."
Addressing the crowd Dr Prashanth Maarla briefed about the campaign and said that 'Jeevanvileena' is to spread awareness about organ donation in the Mangaluru city.
Vineetha Rai, NSS programme coordinator and others were also present.
The campaign will culminate with a valedictory ceremony on October 10.
