Mangaluru, Oct 12: Karkala MLA and chief whip of the opposition in the state assembly, V Sunil Kumar, held lethargy of police department responsible for the increasing incidence of untoward incidents in coastal districts in the recent past. "The murder of a youth, Prashant, who was never involved with any criminal activities, has forced the citizens of the district to hand their heads in shame," he said. He also urged the state government to announce compensation of Rs 25 lac to the distressed family of Prashant.
Sunil Kumar visited the house of the bereaved family on Sunday October 11. He recollected that a murder attempt on innocent persons had taken place in the district two weeks ago. He also asked the government to come forward to assist those who are undergoing treatment relating to the above incident to meet their medical expenses.
"Even after 48 hours since the youth was killed, the police have failed to find out the culprits involved. There are rumours that supporters of Karnataka Forum for Dignity were involved with this murder. We are determined not to allow transformation of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts into a base for the sympathizers of Taliban or into another Syria," he announced. Sunil also blamed the state government for toeing a soft line on hardcore criminals, duly assuming that supporters of KFD and Students Islamic Movement of India have been encouraged to resume their activities after the government dropped cases registered against them.
