Bantwal: 17-year-old gets washed away in Netravati river

Bantwal, Oct 12: A youngster got washed away while bathing in the Netravati river at Kaikunje near BC Road here on Monday October 12.

Akbar (17), son of Hameed, a resident of G T Road, Nandavar, is feared drowned.

Akbar is a first year commerce student of Adarsh College, BC Road.

As it was a holiday for college on Monday, Akbar along with his brother and friends went to the river for a bath. Akbar got washed away by the currents, and though the others tried to save him, they did not succeed.

A group of expert swimmers arrived at the spot and started a search for Akbar but even till late evening, there was no sign of him. Fire personnel from Bantwal and the town police also searched.

As news spread, people from various places like Panemangalore, Nandavar, BC Road, Talapady, Bantwal and so on gathered at the spot in large numbers.

A talented student, Akbar is the eighth among Hameed's nine children.
