Mangaluru, Oct 13: Christopher D'Souza, Neenasam, has been chosen to receive the 11th 'Kalakar Puraskar' instituted by Mandd Sobhann.
Christopher D'Souza is a young Konkani theatre artiste and director, who has graduated from Neenasam and who trains artistes and directs plays for Kalakul – the theatre repertory. For his contribution in taking Konkani theatre to great heights, the Mandd Sobhann core committee has chosen him out of the many nominations / applications received for the award.
Kalakar Puraskar is awarded to deserving artistes, one every year, of Karnataka origin, chosen from the field of folk-arts, theatre, music, and Konkani performing arts.
The Award is instituted by Mandd Sobhann and sponsored by Carvalho Ghorannem. The Award includes a cash amount of Rs 25,000, a trophy and public honour.
The award ceremony will be on November 1 at Kalaangann, at 6 pm.
The ceremony will be followed by the 167th monthly theatre programme 'Sur-Tall-Mell...Sumell', a choral singing presentation by Mandd Sobhann's singing club 'Sumell'.
