Mangaluru, Oct 13: The district VHP on Tuesday October 13 demanded Rs 25 lac as compensation for flower vendor and Bajrangal Dal activist Prashant Poojary who was hacked to death in Moodbidri on October 9.
Addressing a press meet here, VHP district president Jagadish Shenava said, "The Karnataka government should give Rs 25 lac as compensation to Prashant Poojary who was recently murdered in Moodbidri.
"The culprit should be arrested within a week, if not we will hold a Satyagraha protest next Monday (October 19)," he warned.
"From past two years in the state, communal forces like SDPI and PFI goons have been involved in anti-national activities, cattle theft, slaughtering of cattle and love Jihad to disturb communal harmony. We have already informed about this to the district administration and the police, but the anti-Hindu Congress state government led by Siddaramaiah has not taken these issues seriously," he said.
"Though cases were filed on these organizations (PFI and SDPI) and their activists, they were withdrawn by the state government, indicating an indirect support to their acts. This has resulted in increasing number of cattle thefts, cow slaughter and love Jihad, and attacks on Hindu activists with lethal weapons.
"From past six months in places like Mogaveerapatna, Suratkal's Munchoor, Permude and other places, Hindu activists have been attacked and peace has been disrupted. The police have not arrested the culprits, which gives rise to suspicions. The district ministers, MLAs and MLC are mounting pressure on the police department not to take any action against these people. No minister or MLA has condemned the death of Prashant Poojary," Shenava alleged.
"If the police had acted on time and imposed nakabandi soon after the murder, the culprits would have been arrested. But the police delayed and the culprits could easily escape," he said.
He also said that VHP and Bajrang Dal will collect Rs 10 lac and give it to Prashant Poojary's family.
Gopal Kuthar, Bhujanga Kulal and others were present.
It may be mentioned here that Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar too has demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lac for Prashant's family.
