Mangaluru: 29-year-old videographer killed in accident at Mijar days before wedding

Mangaluru, Oct 14: A young videographer lost his life in a tragic accident at Mijar in Moodbidri here on Wednesday October 14.

The deceased is Harish Acharya (29), son of Sridhar Acharya, a resident near Mahalingeshwara Temple, Shirtady.

It is said that Harish's wedding was scheduled to be held on October 25 at Mahaveer Bhavan in Moodbidri, and on October 14, he was on his way to distribute his wedding invitations among friends and relatives. When he reached near Alva's Engineering College at Mijar, a speeding bus moving towards Moodbidri rammed head-on into his car.

The impact of the collision was such that Harish sustained critical injuries and his car was smashed. He was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru but breathed his last on the way. 

Also, the car turned backwards and hit another vehicle. The bus moved off the side of the road. 

Moodbidri police have registered a case.

    I wish NAMO will take road safety as main issue and make an abhiyana like svachha bharath. Need to call all CM meeting and also special parliamentary session to make amendment in laws to protect more peoples lifes. Well appropriated if Siddu take same start and a role model to other states

    I am aghast at the number of accidents taking place in a coastal region of Mangalore .. even where I live in a metropolis like Bombay etc. such accidents are rarely seen. Little wonder .. if Mangalore was converted into a metropolis what would the situation be like?? Is there nobody in this forum concerned voicing out their grievance so that this coastal Mangalore DOES NOT entirely rely on road transport? I had put forth this suggestion a couple of years back to Mr. John Lobo .. Congress MLA when he was here in Doha Qatar to run a parallel mode of transport .. the likes of rail transport, monorail or metro .. People will have options and the road transport will not be strained as is the present case. However, nothing of that sort has turned out. .. I guess the authorities are still contemplating.

    The pvt. bus cartel is too strong for anybody to neutralize it. Public will keep shouting after each such tragedy, then forget, and nothing is going to happen. Need of the hour is to start a Govt. backed intracity professional quality bus service like the BEST in Mumbai, which will never happen for obvious reasons!!

    DK probably could be having the highest rates of accidental deaths in our country if one considers its small population!!

    Another addition to our Fatal accidents statistic .
    The Xpress/service and city buses are a law unto themselves...
    rash n negligent driving ,stopping wherever they feel like,blaring horns nad bullying other road users...is a common sight...
    First and foremost..ensure the Buses stop ONLY at Busstops and they don't wait a second more than required ( passengers ,pick up new passengers and depart..) .the Long wait at Busstops until the next Bus arrives , forces them to Speed later to keep up the timing .....its as simple as that....

    Absolutely, Mr Rodrigues! 25 lakhs is all too little, in fact. Three years rigorous imprisonment, too - if indeed it was a case of rash and negligent driving. Someone has said that the bus driver was a careful and experienced one. Possibly so and tough luck. But that seems to be all too rare among bus drivers most of whom seem to like nothing better than the feel of a body beneath their tyres. Pardon the brutality of my words, but it's true.

    Another life lost as this is happening on daily basis.Is there any way to minimize accidents? How many lives have to be lost and how many families deprived of their dear ones?.The buses are hurrying so fast as if they do not care even there are hundred deaths.

    Horrible,world is going to end ,so someone was saying.No we ourselves are ending it .When one sees the rest of car (was)it Looks like a handful of metal ball.so one can think in which force the bus dashed .One Thing is not clear,bus also was coming from opposite side ,but stays on same side (Left).whose fault it was?Now the Young fellow died.Sad.May his Soul rest in peace.why Drivers Keep up to rules and Speed?why destroy others life.My heartfelt sympathy to the Family.

    Mangalore traffic police needs to take stricter action against bus drivers already having knowledge on how the bus drivers in the city bully other vehicles off their path.
    Action was taken by Mangalore traffic police but it lasted only for a short period of time.
    Action against loud air horns and speeding buses were being taken recebtly,but it too lasted for a short period of time.
    Heavy vehicles need more time to come to a stop from speeds.
    Heavy vehicles should be given a strict speed limit within the city(and highways),taking into account the number of lives that have already been lost involving heavy vehicles (city buses especially) rammig into other vehicles and pedestrians.

    Harish May your soul rest in peace. it was a shocking news to hear.
    He was a gentle man a good videographer.

    At this sad moment it also reminds to have a good road from mangaluru to moodbidri.

    These private buses run as if they are flying like planes. Stop them by speed meter.

    Agree with you Henry and John.. This case is the genuine case where compensation is to be given..and not for the other case, murder of a goon.. Here, in Harish's case will welcome the compensation demand..
