Mangaluru, Oct 16: Karnataka chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah has convened a meeting of member of parliament and legislators from Dakshina Kannada district at Bengaluru on Monday, October 19 to discuss the issue of implementing Yettinahole project. The venue of the meeting, scheduled to be held at 11.30 am that day, will be the conference hall of Vidhana Soudha.
The CM will be presiding over this meeting. information technology minister, S R Patil, water resources minister, M B Patil, Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, forest minister, B Ramanath Rai, health minister, U T Khader, youth services minister, Abhay Chandra Jain, chief whip of the opposition in the assembly, Sunil Kumar, legislators, Vasant Bangera, B A Mohiuddin Bava, J R Lobo, Shakuntala Shetty, S Angara, and Ivan D'Souza, additional chief secretary in forest department, additional chief secretary in water resources department, chief secretary of the department of law, environment department secretary, secretary in water resources department, managing director of Karnataka Irrigation Corporation, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, and zilla panchayat chief executive officer, have been invited to take part in the said meeting.
The deputy commissioner of the district has requested representatives of organizations leading protest against the project also to take part in the said meeting.
Out of the participants, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Vasant Bangera, Shakuntala Shetty and J R Lobo have openly supported anti-Yettinahole activists. Ramanath Rai and Khader also had raised voices at the previous cabinet meeting on behalf of Dakshina Kannada district. Angara and Sunil Kumar too are expected to take sides with the people of Dakshina Kannada district. If the representatives are able to effectively and forcefully put forth their points of view, there is hope of an amicable solution emerging at the meeting.
It is not known as to whether the CM would be making efforts to woo the representatives from Dakshina Kannada district with the aim of going ahead with the said project. If he is able to convince the participants and set aside fund for the project in the coming budget, it would be difficult to stall the project's implementation, it is generally felt.
