I am so pleased to read that the Bethany Convent has come up with a Senior Citizen Home at Attavar. During my next visit to Mangalore I shall certainly visit this facility as it will be nice to know the quality of the service rendered to the Senior Citizens of Mangalore.

This is a most deserving project for Mangalore. The life span of every Indian is getting longer and it is therefore important to provide sufficient Senior Citizen Homes and serve many of the elderly people whose families have moved abroad or whose families cannot take care of them in normal circumstances.

Facilities for the Senior Citizen Homes can be a lucrative business in Mangalore, and therefore the nuns and priests should capitalize on this line of dedication that will also serve the society and community. There are many many NRI Senior Citizens might propose to come back to Mangalore and mingle in their own culture and die in their own culture, thereby leaving all their remaining possessions for the welfare of Mangalore. I have great faith in the Bethany Nuns because I studied my first 3 years of education at Kankanady Bethany Elementary School, under Sister Lazarus, which education is still deep in my heart and my mind.

I still remember as a Bethany student marching bear footed, with other students, wearing a khaki trouser and a white shirt and also a Gandhi cap, from the school to the Kankanady Maidaan on August 15, 1947 in order to join the Flag Hoisting ceremony. What a beautiful memory that I have shared with thousands of Americans and Canadians, and also the British, because the Indepedance of India was the turning point of our modern history of the world !

The blessing of freedom and the gift of democracy that we Indians have displayed to the world is a priceless reward to the World of Peace.
