Udupi, Aug 2: Hebri gram panchayat has been awarded as the best Gram Panchayat in the district, for the year 2006-07, declared B N Shankar Poojari, president of Zilla Panchayat in the general meeting of ZP on Tuesday July 31.
The department of rural development and panchayat raj selects the best GP at every district and taluk level, and confers the best panchayat with special grants based on certain yardsticks of developments. The panchayat has secured 85.5 marks and topped the list of GP in Udupi district.
The yardstick includes value evaluation of administration of GP, audit, electric bill, tax review, social justice, adult education and the grants to SC/ST.
Neere Krishna Shetty is the president, Jayanthi R Poojari is the vice-president and H Bojaraja Poojari is the secretary of Hebri GP at present.
