Udupi, Aug 3: Uday Suvarna (45), a resident of Baikady Gandhinagar reportedly raped his neighbour, a ten-year-old mentally challenged girl at Baikady near Brahmavar here on Sunday July 29.  Uday is a bus conductor in a city bus here.

As per the sources it is said that their houses are located nearby.  Her mother is earning the livelihood bidi rolling. Although the girl was mentally challenged, she has enrolled her in class I at Harady School. Her mother was taking her daughter everyday to the school.

It was believed that Uday Suvarna had developed good relation with the girl as he used to give her chocolates.  On Sunday July 29 when the girl was suffering from a throat infection, Uday took her to his mother, who is a traditional medicine practitioner at Kaup.  It was here that he raped her on the same night.

On the next day he brought the girl back to her house and left her with her mother.  Even the girl did not say anything to her mother.  But she was not in her usual self. Having noticed this, her mother asked her as what was wrong.  It was then that this innocent girl revealed the truth.

Mother immediately took her to Brahmavar Primary Health Centre where it was confirmed that she had been raped.  Immediately a complaint was filed with the police who managed to arrest Uday before he managed to escape.
