Mangalore, Aug 4: The Mangalore University All-College Students' Union (MUACSU) president (2006-07) Sumit Melroy informed that the election for MUASCU will be held at the C V Raman Pai Hall in the city from 10.30 am on August 11, at the press meet held here recently.
Addressing media persons he stated that a circular in this regard has already been sent to 125 colleges affiliated to Mangalore University and all have been asked to conduct their elections, they if they haven’t done so already.
Elaborating on the said matter, he stated that more than 80 colleges had already conducted elections, while the rest have been requested to complete the formalities before the first week of August. However, he did regret the fact that some of the autonomous colleges in the city have refused to hold elections in accordance with democratic norms.
Mellroy was of the opinion that such truant colleges have demeaned the democratic ideologies by appointing mere top-ranking students as office bearers of the students union.
According to the agenda of the said meeting, after the election for the MUACSU on August 11, an oath taking ceremony of the body will be duly organized at 12 noon on the same day itself.
Mithun Rai, Dilray Alva, Krishna Prasad, Khalander, Dhreeraj among other student leaders were present on the occasion.
