'Seven Pakistani soldiers die in firing from Afghanistan'

Islamabad, Oct 27 (IANS): At least seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in firing from across Afghanistan border, Pakistan army said on Tuesday.

Cross-border shelling occasionally takes place between Pakistan and Afghanistan which share nearly 2,500 kms of border, Xinhua news agency reported.

Security officials some times blame Pakistani militants who operate from Afghanistan border regions for attacks on border posts.

They say most of the Pakistani Taliban have fled to Afghanistan as a result of major military operations.

Heavy fire from Pak-Afghan border occurred early Tuesday northeast of Angoor Adda area in south Waziristan, the army spokesman said.

"A total of seven soldiers were killed," a statement from the army's Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The incident took place when relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are tense following the Taliban attacks in Afghanistan.
