Edhi has accepted PM's Rs.one crore donation

New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS): The government on Tuesday said Pakistani social worker Bilqis Bano Edhi of Edhi Foundation has accepted Rs.1 crore as donation given to the foundation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said the prime minister had made the donation offer to her.

"Bilkis gratefully accepted that donation," Swarup said. "We have talked to her recently."

Modi had announced on Monday that India would give the Edhi Foundation Rs.1 crore, as a token of appreciation, not just for taking care of Geeta - the differently abled girl who returned from Pakistan - but also for the wonderful work that the foundation has been doing.

Modi had complimented Edhi for taking care of Geeta with love and affection for so many years.

Geeta, a young speech and hearing impaired Indian woman left stranded in Pakistan for over a decade, arrived here on Monday.
