Mangalore, Aug 7: Following torrential rains, some parts of Manjalkodi near Pumpwell here have been flooded. This is mainly due to heavy down pouring of rains that lashed over the city, on Sunday August 5 and Monday August 6.

The overflowing drainage water too has added to the flood situation, giving out a foul odour in the area. The residents of the area have no other option, but to tolerate and put up with the existing situation. Nearly 15 houses in the region are submerged in water.

Most of the residents in this region are poor and some of them are Dalits. This being the case the locals feel that the incident only highlights the gross negligence on part of the government to their plight.

According to sources, the drains in the region are filled up, and since there no other way for the outflow of rain water, an artificial flood situation occurs.

This matter was brought to the notice of M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner about a month ago when a similar situation had arisen owing to incessant rains. But the locals say that no action has been in this regard so far.
