Daily hearing of denotification plea against D K Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Nov 4 (DHNS): Starting November 16, the High Court of Karnataka will hear every day a petition with regard to Energy Minister D K Shivakumar in a case of land denotification at Benniganahalli village in Bengaluru East taluk.

Justice A V Chandrashekar will hear the matter. The decision comes after the Supreme Court directed the High Court to hear the matter expeditiously.

The matter is about denotification of 4.2 acres in Benniganahalli. Shivakumar had bought the land and then got it converted for residential purpose and entered into a joint agreement with Puravankara, a leading builder. The land was denotified by then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on May 13, 2010.

Those named

Two people named Kabbale Gowda and T J Abraham had filed complaints before the Lokayukta court. The Lokayukta police had booked the Congress leader and six others under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Karnataka Restriction of Transfer of Land Act, 1991, and the Indian Penal Code.

The High Court then stayed the Lokayukta investigation but vacated it later. Shivakumar then moved the High Court for reinstatement of that stay.

Relief for Moily

The High Court on Tuesday stayed the proceedings against former Union minister M Veerappa Moily with regard to a charge sheet filed against him for violating the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

The matter is being heard by a Chikkaballapur court. Moily, the Chikkaballapur MP, moved the High Court for quashing of the proceedings against him. Justice Rathnakala ordered notices to the respondents and stayed the proceedings until the next hearing.

It is important that such cases need to be expeditiously cleared. It is quite significant to note that SC has directed HC, while there are hundreds of cases already pending against Reddy, yeddy, Katta, Halappa, well I don't want to finish the 2000 character space provided.
