Mangalore, Aug 10: Mangalore fishermen unions held a protest in front of the office of deputy commissioner to press the state government to fulfill their demands, in response to the call given by National Fishermen Federation to hold nation-wide on Thursday August 9.

Action should be taken to provide drinking water facility at Mangalore Old Port.  Kerosene should be provided to the fishermen who are engaged in trawl boat fishing, for cooking purpose at 30% less than market rate. Full time Coast Guard should be appointed to protect the fishermen and their assets in case of emergency at the Old Port.  In case of emergency and turbulent sea fisheries boats should be allowed to enter NMPT, they demanded.

Karnataka Coastal Fishermen Action Committee executive president Loknath Boloor, chief secretary Vasudev Boloor, Kulshekar Puthran, Trawl Boat Fishermen Association president Sitaram Suvarna, vice-president Nitin Kumar, Pursene Boat Fishermen Association president Kamalaksha Amin, vice-president Naveen Karkera, Gil Net Fishermen Association president Ali Hassan, honorary president Satish Kotian, B A Basheer, DK Mogaveer Women Association president Sitamma Suvarna and others were present.
