Udupi, Nov 10: The 266th birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan was observed by the Udupi district authority, zilla panchayat, backward classes and minority welfare department at Brahma Sri Narayanaguru auditorium here on Tuesday November 10.

District in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake in his address said, "Birth is natural; no one writes his religion before his birth. Humans are free by birth, but then he follows his parent's religion."
Nowadays the gap between religions and castes is widening.

Regarding controversies in Tipu’s personality Sorake said, "He has led a brave life. There is need to highlight the good factors about his profile, but unfortunately his noble works and achievements have not been emphasized much in society. While observing the present scenario, people have misunderstood his personality.

Sorake also added that if one goes back in history one can find temples built by Tipu Sultan namely Sringeri temple and some which have been protected by him namely Marigudi. He never discriminated between religions.

Harmony and friendly ties need to be made stronger in society. Patience and tolerance are the assets of one’s nation.

Hazrat Tipu Sultan's personality and achievements were narrated by A K Kukkila, a journalist.

A daff dance form was performed by a dance troupe.
