Udupi, Aug 13: The district unit of the Karnataka Janapara Vedike (DKJV) has lodged a complaint with the state human rights commission on behalf of Jayalakshmi, an Akshara Dasoha cook in Thombottu government school in Kundapur taluk, regarding people spreading rumors about her.
Jayalakshmi, a Dalit widow suffered tremendous mental trauma owing to rumors being circulated about her. People led by some local leaders had spread rumours that she had been suffering from AIDS. Hence she was asked not to cook food for the anganwady students at Thombottu.
However, the latest medical reports clearly indicate that this is not the case and that she is not an AIDS patient. Even though this was proved, parents of the students prohibited their children from eating the food cooked by Jayalakshmi. Hence only 3 students were eating the food cooked by her.
Therefore the Vedike has strongly urged the district administration to take necessary action against the miscreants who are spreading rumors about Jayalakshmi. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to district commissioner and district superintendent of police by the Vedike here recently.
Shriram Diwana, Janardan Bhandarkar, Premanand Kalmadi and former ZP member Dr U Vanajakshi were also part of the delegation.
