Kundapur, Aug 13: The longstanding bridge at Jalady near Hemmady here on National Highway 17 built by the reputed company M/S Gammon India Ltd is almost on the verge of collapse owing to negligence.

The bridge was re-laid with matrix coating sometime ago.  However, owing to heavy rains and continuous plying of ore-laden, timber-laden trucks on the route.  Potholes on the road are not only dangerous to the commuters and vehicles but can even spell doom for the bridge.

The condition of other bridges from Brahmavar to Shiroor on National Highway 17 are quite similar.  Most of these bridges were constructed by Gammon India and have withstood the onslaught of heavy vehicles as well as rains for quite long.  But owing to lack of proper maintenance, these bridges are now facing danger.  It is now the high time for the concerned people and administration to take suitable steps to preserve these bridges, said a shopkeeper of Hemmady while speaking to this correspondent.

Picture shows that the situation is beyond danger limit! It needs immediate attention. What are they doing? Only collecting taxes! Everything needs proper maintenance, be it roads, house or car. Nothing lasts for ever without maintenance.

About PWD less said the better. MLA & MP's representing this area should be sent a copy of this picture before the major mishap!! These bridges are just not suitable for any purpose.!!!
