Udupi, Aug 13: “Makkaladhwani” a one-day programme was organized by the Dakshina Kannada Makkala Sangama here, on Sunday August 12.
Addressing the valedictory programme, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat said that children should be taught the importance of Kannada language at schools.
Kalkura opined that in order to defend and encourage Kannada language, there should be an uniform educational policy.
Further he lamented the fact that the children of the present generation know more about Harry Potter, rather then the Kannada writers of their own state. Any culture that is bereft of the ethos of the state cannot be regarded as progress in the true sense, he declared profoundly.
K Raghupati Bhat MLA, U C Holla president of Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, writer Shantharaj Aithal, K Damodar Aithal convenor of Udupi consumer forum, Sandhya Koteshwar president of the Makkala Sahitya Sammelan and N B Vijay Ballal managing trustee of Ambalpady temple were present on the occasion.
